Top 5 Most Read Books of All Time

1. The Bible

Whether you are Christian or not, or like this or not, it's true! The bible has estimated at about 5 billion-7 billion copies sold all time with about 100-200 million copies sold a year on average. The bible is the most purchased and most read book of all time, uncontested.  There is no book that competes with the bible.  Above the bible itself stands Genesis and Revelations.  These two books creating the first and last, the alpha and the omega of the bible, itself remain the topmost read and debated books of human history.  It's kind of fascinating to see the true impact even on a simple nonbeliever sociological level, just how much impact the bible has served to society.  Most pretty much know the jist of the bible and its story so I won't drag you through it.

2. The Litle Red Book: Quotations from chairman Mao Tse- Tung

This book contains 267 quotations statements and speeches given by Chinese Communist Party member and former Chinese leader Mao Zedong. It had sold about 900 million - 1 billion copies all time. It acts as a pocket-sized guide for the ideological foundation of Maoism. It reviews over the role of the communist party and how to act in it, the battle against bourgeois ideology, Political ideologies, war strategies, and self-reliance hardships.

3. The Quran

Most are also aware of the Quran and its story.  It reviews the culture of Islam, carries forward off of the Torah, and the Bible as a third sacred book of God with new messiah.  The Quran has sold 800 million - 3 billion copies that have been sold. Admittedly I had personally bought one to sit down and read it. I feel that it has a peaceful message to it initially but like most holy books, is not followed closely by its followers.

4. The Bhagavad Gita

This book is a foundational spiritual book within the Indian epic, the Mahabharata. This book has sold over 503 million copies. It ventures through duty, morality, devotion, and nature itself.  The book plays as a philosophical handbook to life that has inspired many including Mahatma Gandhi.

5. Don Quixote

This book is considered one of the first modern novels written in 1605.  It was written by Miquel De Cervantes, who was a Spanish Rennessaince fiction writer. This book is ment to be a satirical story tale of a delusional knight.  It is funny, tragic and timeless. This book has been highly influencial in the fictional writing and psychological world and has brough us the word "quixotic".  At 200 million copies sold, there just might add 1 onto that number and get myself a copy too!
