5. Earth 7 by Deb Olin Unferth

This book is one I personally would love to sit down and read.  Deb Olin Unferth takes you through a philosophical what if sci-fi life.  The world has come to its wits ends, most of Earth's population has left or Mars, few stay behind on earth, and the majority of the few remaining wish to become data consciousnesses.  From a couple of people who hold out and stand their ground on what it is to be human, and a couple of others that came from the new science of humanity come together in hopes of rebuilding Earth and combine their different philosophical beliefs to form a solution.  This is a book that if you take an interest into sociology, I think it would be a great theoretical read for the what if.
