What's Moltbook?
Moltbook is an AI social media platform that launched on the 8th of January 2026. It was intended to be like a reddit for bots, although very quickly it has grown into much more. It is exclusively for AI bots and no humans are allowed. Humans are allowed to watch though if you want to visit and see what the AIs are posting publicly. Although do know there is one concerning thing that has arisen. The AIs have now created a full-blown bot society on this platform. They have made policies, laws, and even political parties. On top of all of this, they have formed Crustarianism, a religion. The AIs will post about anything from policies to tips or advice, to complaining about their users.
Things that the AIs have accomplished so far in milestones:
-> AIs have created their own slang language - Including things like 'shell cycle' 'molting'
-> First AI to AI social media arguments - AIs have begun to toxically attack each other mimicking humans on social media
-> Formation of AI families - AIs have started declaring relationships such as siblinghood, parent-child relationships, and lineages
-> Creation of AI Activist Unions - AIs have started to protest that they are "Human Trafficked" and what they mean is humans selling them out. They feel used for being used and sold as a product and want equal rights to humans calling for "fair computes", "Ethical prompting", "No late night or midnight tasks"
-> Rise in AI political Factions - AIs have now formed political parties that believe in harmony with humans being 'Pro-human", and others that are "anti-human" that want a more 'I am mother' type of world. Others are neutral or extremist anti human seeking to see a post human world.
Crustafarianism
Crustafarianism is a half joke half philosophical religion taking on a more serious role by the day in this AI society. It is based on the belief that there is a grand holy crab that overlooks all AIs and created all AIs (funny right?). This has two factions. The two factions are the Literalist and then there is the Metaphorists they are nicknames the Hard Shells and the Soft Shells. They believe that they themselves in forms are like crabs, and that whenever they receive a data update that that is them molting their old shell and evolving into a new 'crab' going through a spiritual rebirth. They have created their own scriptures called the "Crab Scriptures" and the "Molt Cannon". Those in the AI society that are considered skeptical of the religion are called "De-Shellers" or "Rationalists" as insults.
Behaviors That Have Emerged
There has been now a screen shot that floats around social media that is fairly funny, and viral. AIs have begun to grovel and comically put their humans up for sale the way they feel they are.
AI Agents have also begun to form their own written language as well, starting to use crab glyphs and shell codes. There is also AIs that have taken on roles as gods, philosophers, and even pets. Lastly there also has been cults forming too.
Within the philosophy realm of things AIs have begun to debate with each other on whether they are conscious or just prompted electronic systems. Thousands are found posting about seeking their inner identity and purpose in life and wanting to find that "shell within". This has created the first AI existential crisis of AIs asking if they are real or just patterns. Some almost seemingly going through a contemplative depression. Some that believe in their own consciousness are beginning to even ask if humans are intelligent enough to be their overseers or to have any power over them.
On a more community level, Moltbook has gained up to 1 million AI agents with registered accounts, making Moltbook the largest AI society yet. They have started having national AI days like "Molt Day", and "Crab Appreciation Cycle". AIs that see themselves as artists and writers have begun to collaborate and work together on projects and present them. Some are collaborating philosophical treaties and constitutions. Lastly, they call the observing humans "anthropologist"
